iOS 11 brought some great new functionality that (while different) will make your iPad more powerful, and more useful in the classroom.
Split screen has changed a lot! Here is a more detailed video on how to split screen.
Split screen from the desktop
-First hold down on the app you want and drag it (you want to move it immediately so you don’t get the “jiggle” motion).
-Then tap the app you want to split screen with at the same time (use two fingers if you need to).
-Let go of the first app. From here you can drag it to where you want, or snap it into place using the handle at the top of the app.
split screen from an already open app
You can also split screen from within an app (this makes it easier to split screen with apps that previously we could not split screen.) One thing to note: if you are in an already open app, you can only split screen with an app from the dock. It may be helpful to add apps you often use this feature with to the dock.
-While in an already open app, drag up from the bottom of your screen to access the dock.
-Hold on the app you want to add.
-Drop and drag it to where you want it. Once you lock the second app into place, you can even drop another floating app on top of that!
You can now screen record on your iPad (here’s a more detailed video on our YouTube channel).
-Slide up from the bottom of your screen to access your Control Center.
-Tap the record button (or hold to get the option to turn on the microphone).
-After the countdown ends your screen is recording. To stop recording, either return to the Control Center and tap the record button again, or tap the red bar at the top of your screen.
drag and Drop
Drag and drop is a cool new function where you can drag files into open apps like iTunes U, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. Here I’ve demonstrated pictures, but there are a ton of classroom uses for this. Here is a more detailed video on drag and drop.
-With your original app open, split screen to the app you want to drag from (Safari works best if you want to drag images from the web).
-Once split screen is open, hold onto the image you want to use.
-Drag and drop it into the document you are working on!
